Common Core & Special Needs - New Challenges, Opportunities Training

The Common Core State Standards bring new challenges and new opportunities for students with special needs. From the beginning, the authors of the Common Core standards knew students with special needs were going to need instruction based on Universal Design for Learning principles as well as accommodations and assistive technology. This workshop points out the needs for UDL instruction, accommodations, and assistive tech by studying the tasks called for in the standards and tools that can help with those tasks. The fact that students are being asked to use technology and collaborate starting in Kindergarten gives students who need assistive technology lots of opportunity to practice using tools they will use throughout their life.
