The Project Description
This project examines common themes and archetypes found in folklore and myth, as one way to illustrate cross-cultural similarities and promote global awareness. The example project demonstrates how pupils might conduct a research project that explores common themes found in folk stories or mythologies that originate in different parts of the world and at different points in history. The tutorials provide instruction for using a word processing programme to record and organise information that is gathered, including how to properly cite sources using the MLA Citation Style. The final project report will be prepared in a presentation programme for sharing with the class or others outside the classroom. Discussion questions, assessment rubrics, and information about adapting and extending the example project are included in the resource materials available for download with this project.

Infusing 21st Century Skills back to top
The example project created in the tutorials illustrates one way this project might be completed, using subject-specific content, targeted for a certain grade range, and using a specific application. As demonstrated, this would make a fine technology skills integration project for your pupils. However, the basic project can be easily extended to more fully support the teaching and learning of other 21st century concepts and skills, beyond those related to technology.
A stated Performance Indicator of a 21st Century teacher is the ability to "customise and personalise learning activities to address pupils' diverse learning styles, working strategies, and abilities using digital tools and resources" (ISTE NETST 2c). The Project Activity Guide and The Professional Development Workbook, included in the downloadable Project Resource Packet, will help you practice this critical skill by guiding you through the process of modifying the example project to infuse 21st century skills, to help you adjust the project to suit your own classroom needs, and to assess the end result.
The following tutorials address ways you might adapt the basic project, as well as provide examples of how the project can be extended to more fully incorporate specific 21st century concepts. Please note that these suggestions may involve using Web resources that are blocked or filtered by your school or organisation.
