Tech Integration Project
Lesson Accelerator: Project Overview
Job Info Interview
Software Type: Word Processing
The example project created in this Lesson Accelerator
addresses NETS Performance Indicators for middle grades as used in a(n) Social Studies curriculum. It could also be used with older learners
or adapted for lower grades. See the section on Extending and Adapting
at the bottom of this page for ideas on how to use this same project
for different subjects, grades, and skill levels.
Project Launchers
Lesson Accelerator Project Launcher pages contain video tutorials
that show you, step-by-step, how to create this project
using specific software applications, as well as a movie showing
you what the finished project looks like.
They also provide a download of all the example
files used in the project, so you can recreate it.

Description
Students will conduct an interview with a parent or another adult, organize the information and then write a paper using the information they have gathered. Students might be asked to present their information to the class, or participate in classroom discussion about the jobs and careers that have been explored through these interviews.
Goals
To provide the students the opportunity to conduct an interview, organize the information that they recorded during the interview, and then create a word-processed document with the information.
Objectives
The student will be able to:
- Create a word processed document.
- Insert a picture in a word processed document.
- Set alignment and spacing for a document.
- Run a spelling and grammar check on their document.
Preparation and Skill Mastery
Students will first need to identify a person to interview. Who they interview may be based on their age. Young students will most likely interview a parent, while older students could interview someone in the job field that they are interested in entering. Students can then use the downloadable interview questions, or write their own questions. Once students have conducted the interview, they will need to organize the information. The example project organizes the information chronologically. Students should have an understanding of how to write an introduction and conclusion for a paper.
Materials
- Computers with word-processing software installed.
- Copies of the interview questions found at the end of this document.
- A printer, if the final project is to be printed.
Task List
The tasks to be completed for this project include:
- Determine the scope of interview (or use downloadable interview questions).
- Select a person to interview.
- Conduct interview.
- Organize information obtained in interview.
- Create word-processed paper on interview.
- Insert pictures.
- Print paper.
Assessment
Assessment can be based on the following:
- Were all of the interview questions answered and referred to in the paper?
- Did the student follow all of the page setup requirements? (font size, alignment, spacing, etc.)
Extending or Adapting
Here are some possible ways that this lesson plan might be extended
or adapted for different timeframes, grade levels, and skill/ability levels:
- Students could be required to interview more than one person in a job field and then compile the information and write a paper.
- The number and type of interview questions could be changed as needed, with younger students required to ask fewer and simpler questions.
- If this project is being completed within the context of a specific subject area, the person being interviewed should be working in a related field. For example: If students are completing this project as a writing assignment for a Science class, the person being interviewed might be a scientist working at a local research facility or business.
