Research Supports Efficacy of Atomic Learning’s Online Software Training

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LITTLE FALLS, MN – March 27, 2006 – Academic Business Advisors, a highly regarded research firm, recently completed a review of Atomic Learning’s design, instructional approach and educational benefits. The final report presents research that supports the efficacy of both the design and the delivery of Atomic Learning tutorials.

“It takes significant, time, energy and resources for schools to find, evaluate, purchase and implement best of breed solutions that truly impact on teaching and learning,” said Chuck Amos, CEO of Atomic Learning. “Atomic Learning has a long history of helping schools get the most out of the technology products they use. It is extremely gratifying to now have a wide body of research that validates the Atomic Learning approach to software training and support. We are as committed as ever to contributing to the growth of all learners and providing a resource that helps teachers succeed with technology.”

Seven key findings were identified in the report including:

  1. The use of animation/video positively impacts learning, application, and retention.
  2. Structuring learning in small, highly targeted formats enhances learning and promotes use.
  3. The timing of support is critical; immediate support improves learning.
  4. Teachers’ level of confidence in using technology is a critical determinant of teachers’ levels of implementation and integration of technology.
  5. Computer technology can enhance the learning and the acquisition of skills for students.
  6. Technology can accommodate learning styles and be an effective motivator for students with specific learning needs.
  7. The technology supports student performance of complex tasks that are similar to those performed by adult professionals and/or fill a genuine need of the student.

Atomic Learning’s unique software training system encompasses all of the key findings. The short tutorial movies provide both audio and video stimulation. Each tutorial movie addresses the user’s question specifically and is available as needed, 24/7.

"We were so pleased to be able to pinpoint the research that supports what Atomic Learning users have known intuitively for some time now. It’s very powerful to be able to deliver nuggets of learning at the moment when they are most needed, and when application of that knowledge reinforces the process immediately, its power only increases," said Farimah Schuerman, Managing Partner, Academic Business Advisors. “Learning at the moment when information is most needed has impact; a multi-sensory approach to learning has impact. Most teachers know this intuitively. It’s very reassuring to have the research that supports this knowledge, and to have the formal validation for what we've known all along.”

Atomic Learning (www.atomicLearning.com) provides web-based software training for all popular applications plus many more specialized software programs. The training is delivered via short (one to three minute), easy-to-understand movies that provide personal, on-demand answers to those ‘How do I do that?’ questions.
