Tech Integration Project
Lesson Accelerator: Project Launcher

Name Activity
Platform: PC
Application: Overlay Maker 3

Description

In this activity, you will create an overlay using Overlay Maker® 3 to help teach students the letters in their name. It is a good alternate activity for students with physical impairments to use if they are unable to write the letters in their name. It’s also a good motivator for encouraging all students to work with letters. This activity works best when it is paired with a talking word processor, such as IntelliTalk, Write:OutLoud®, or ReadPlease®. Once your overlay is made you can modify it so that the student is working on his/her phone number or address.

Creating Your Own Project

We will start this project by showing you step-by-step how to create an overlay in Overlay Maker 3, with a student’s photo, a name key as a model, and individual letter keys that the student can use to type his or her name on the computer. Techniques for modifying the overlay to accommodate for individual needs and for assessing skills will also be shown.
