Charting the Heights
Application: Excel 2007
Platform: PC

Description

The process for creating the sample spreadsheet in Microsoft® Excel 2007 is described below. Each section contains tutorials that demonstrate how to complete a part of this project. The tutorials will take you through adding data to a simple spreadsheet, and entering formulas to determine the median, mean, and mode of a set of numbers. We will also create a 3-dimensional column chart to visually show the relationships between the data points.
The Example Project
The Completed Project movie will show you what the completed example project looks like.

Creating Your Own Project
Students will be entering data about how tall each member of a class is into a spreadsheet. Formulas will also be entered to find the median, mean (average), and mode of the data. A column chart will be generated to visually display the relationships between the student heights. Students will have the opportunity to manipulate the data in order to see how the median, mean, and mode changes. A sample data set is provided in the Project Activity Guide that is included in the downloadable resource packet for this project.
