Tech Integration Project
Lesson Accelerator: Project Overview
Bibliography Boogie
Software Type: Word Processing
The example project created in this Lesson Accelerator
addresses NETS Performance Indicators for middle grades as used in a(n) English/ Language Arts curriculum. It could also be used with older learners
or adapted for lower grades. See the section on Extending and Adapting
at the bottom of this page for ideas on how to use this same project
for different subjects, grades, and skill levels.
Project Launchers
Lesson Accelerator Project Launcher pages contain video tutorials
that show you, step-by-step, how to create this project
using specific software applications, as well as a movie showing
you what the finished project looks like.
They also provide a download of all the example
files used in the project, so you can recreate it.
When you've reviewed all the information on this page and would like to go

Description
For this Lesson Accelerator, students will be learning how to properly create a bibliography or "works cited" page. The final word processing document depicts references for multiple sources, including books, journals, newspapers, and Web sites. The document that is created by following along with the tutorial movies can be used for future reference when students are required to create bibliographies for other projects.
Goals
To provide students with the opportunity to learn how to accurately cite a variety of sources, and to create a bibliography reference document for their own use.
Objectives
The student will be able to:
- create a sample bibliography that demonstrates how to accurately reference information from a variety of sources.
- change font styles and size in the word processing document.
- adjust spacing and indentations in the word processing document.
Preparation and Skill Mastery
Students should have mastered basic computer skills, such as using input devices (mouse, trackpad, keyboard, etc.), opening and closing application, and saving files to a personal folder. If students will be completing the example project, as demonstrated in the tutorial movies, they will need access to the information provided in the Student Information section of the Project Activity Guide for this Lesson Accelerator.
Materials
- A computer with word processing software installed
- The information provided in the Student Information section of the Project Activity Guide, or source information that they have gathered on their own
- An Internet connection (optional)
- A printer (optional)
Task List
The tasks to be completed for this project include:
- Creating a new word processing document
- Entering information, in correct MLA format, for a variety of different types of sources
- Adjusting font, spacing, and indentations within the document
Assessment
Assessment can be based on the following:
- Was the student able to accurately reproduce the example citations?
- Is the student able to demonstrate an understanding of how different types of sources should be cited?
Extending or Adapting
Here are some possible ways that this lesson plan might be extended
or adapted for different timeframes, grade levels, and skill/ability levels:
- The example project, as demonstrated in the tutorial movies, shows examples of references from a variety of different types of sources. The project is easily adapted for any subject requiring students to find their own sources, instead of using the example sources.
- The project can be simplified by having students focus on creating a bibliography that only cites one or two kinds of sources. For example, have the students practice citing information from Web sites only.
